A clump-forming woodland perennial that forms a mound of deeply cut, palmately-lobed, dark green foliage. Features 1 1/4″ diameter, medium pink to lilac, saucer-shaped, upturned, 5-petaled flowers in spring for 6-7 weeks.
Culture: Easily grown. Prefers moist, humus-rich soil, but tolerates average, well-drained soil. Will naturalize in optimum growing situation Foliage may yellow or go summer dormant if soil dries out.
Use: shady borders, shady native plant gardens or open woodland gardens. Birds eat ripening seed in the distinctive, beaked seed capsules which give rise to the common name of crane's bill.
